Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine
Location: Miami Shores, FL
Barry University's School of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, founded in 1985, is one of three podiatric medical schools in the U.S. that is integrated within a comprehensive university. Our students are taught in small groups and have the opportunity to pursue dual-degree options through Barry's 4-year program; while earning a DPM degree, students can also earn an MBA through the Andreas School of Business. Our location in vibrant, diverse South Florida ensures patient population will be equally diverse, a critical component for the 21st century medical practitioner. There are multiple volunteer options available to our students and many opportunities to engage in research and mission trips with our faculty.
Students never fail to mention the excellent mentoring offered by faculty like Dr. James Losito, team physician for the NBA's Miami Heat, and Dr. Charles Southerland, founder of the Yucatan Crippled Children's Project, a organization that provides an opportunity for our students to help disadvantaged communities abroad. In fact, many students have co-authored work in peer-reviewed journals.
At Barry University’s School of Podiatric Medicine, our clinical education experience is second to none. Students rotate through eight different hospitals and clinics throughout the Miami area. The latest technological innovations permeate the curriculum from the use of lecture capture technology and e-learning experiences in the first year to tracking student-patient interactions with "state of the art" technology in the clinics.
